What is a GRP handrail?

It is a handrail made from glass reinforced polymer that offers an alternative to steel handrails, which are subject to corrosion.

Is GRP stronger than steel?

Because it weighs as much as 75% less than steel, GRP has a much higher strength-to-weight ratio. It is thus much easier to work with than steel, especially on large projects. Contact our team for specific strength information if you need expert assistance.

Is GRP the same as fibreglass?

Although GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Polymer, it’s also called composite polymer, fibreglass, or FRP, fibreglass reinforced polymer.

What are the advantages of GRP over steel?

GRP is much lighter, does not conduct electricity, and won’t corrode. It also has a high strength-to-weight ratio and is low-installation and low-maintenance.

What is the disadvantage of GRP?

GRP can be too rigid, and due to its composition, it does not have flex. This is why it’s sometimes subject to breaking or cracking under sudden impact or during major temperature fluctuations.
