Night Warehouse Operative

Established in 1975 Industrial Metal Services have been competitively serving the steel industry for nearly 50 years.  ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Generate (break down) rack locations to create space for new stock.

• Maintain inventory controls by stowing stock away in the relevant location.

• Prepare production orders by processing T-Cards (Material Requested); pulling materials, made ready for collection, delivered by trailer.

• Prepare customer orders by processing delivery ticket requests, pulling materials, banding and labelling consignments, ready for vehicle loading on the night shift.

• Prepare customer orders by processing delivery ticket requests, finding material location and preparing (writing up) all tickets, ready for pulling on the night shift.

• Correctly complete delivery tickets and return to the ticket holding area.

• Ensure all stock discrepancies are reported to the warehouse supervisor or the stock checker or manager.

• Ensure PPE is worn at all times in the warehouse.

• Maintain equipment by performing ‘Before Use Checks’ and reporting any faults, via management, to the maintenance team.

• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping all racking and floor areas free from waste.

Role and responsibilities:

Multi customer drops and movement of materials to fulfil customer/ inter-branch orders to schedule within health and safety guidelines. General fair usage and maintenance of vehicle, adherence to vehicle policy and all VOSA regulations. You may also be required to help out in the warehouse on occasion

  • To enable safe and efficient receipt, movement and storage of goods via company vehicle and manifest provided
  • To maintain the vehicle in a roadworthy condition and adhere to all VOSA regulations
  • To plan the most effective and efficient routes to suit delivery schedule and to minimise diesel usage where possible. Following a pre-planned manifest for drops, must be signed for and agreed before leaving.
  • To work efficiently and safely in the operation of machinery to lift and load material onto wagon to drivers manifest provided.
  • To assist in the management, storage and audit of stock in the warehouse through good housekeeping and maintenance of quality control procedures when not driving.
  • To work as part of a team with warehouse operatives to load and unload materials in timely fashion
  • To show courtesy and be helpful to customers/suppliers when collecting, delivering or returning materials to warehouse.
  • Maintain a safe workplace/vehicle without risk to health by proper and timely assessment of risks to health and safety, and to implement measures and arrangements identified as necessary from the management.

Key functions of the role will be learning a variety of processes in both commercial and operational aspects. Being comfortable talking to all levels of employee and also a good telephone manner and the ability to build a rapport with customers is a pre-requisite.

On completion of a successful trail period, the employee can progress to attending a day-release college course in a suitable engineering discipline.

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Forklift Operator to join our warehouse team. The successful candidate will be responsible for efficiently handling materials, operating forklifts safely, and supporting shipping and receiving operations.

Duties

  • Operate forklift equipment to load, unload, and transport materials within the warehouse
  • Handle materials carefully, ensuring safe lifting techniques for heavy loads
  • Support warehouse organisation by stacking and storing items in designated areas
  • Conduct routine inspections of forklift equipment to identify potential mechanical issues
  • Use clamps, magnets, chains or plate lifting attachments as required

Requirements

  • Proven experience operating forklifts in a warehouse setting

Commercial Structural Steel Estimator

Role Purpose

This role combines tendering, estimating, and client-facing business development activity. The Commercial Structural Steel Estimator is responsible for producing accurate and competitive estimates while also supporting sales, building client relationships, and helping secure new work.

The role plays a key part in both winning work and shaping commercial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Commercial

  • Review tender enquiries, drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Prepare detailed take-offs for structural steelwork, including connections and ancillary items.
  • Build clear and accurate cost estimates covering materials, fabrication, surface treatment, and transportation
  • Obtain, evaluate, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Identify commercial risks, exclusions, and opportunities within tenders.
  • Prepare tender summaries and pricing reviews for internal approval.
  • Support project handover following award.

    Business Development & Sales

  • Act as a point of contact for key clients & customers.
  • Follow up submitted tenders to secure feedback and improve win rates.
  • Support pre-tender discussions, early-stage budgeting, and feasibility pricing.
  • Attend client meetings, site visits, and tender interviews where required.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of enquiries and repeat clients.
  • Assist in identifying new market opportunities and target contractors.
  • Work closely with senior management to support pricing strategy and workload planning.

    Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience estimating commercial structural steelwork projects.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes.
  • Demonstrable client-facing or sales support experience within construction or steelwork.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong commercial judgement and attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable dealing directly with clients and decision-makers.
  • Competent with estimating software, Excel, and digital take-off tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders while supporting ongoing client relationships.

Qualifications

Qualification in construction, engineering, or quantity surveying preferred. Equivalent hands-on industry experience will be fully considered.
