Our superior Galvanised Sheets offers strength, robust durability, and enhanced resistance to corrosion. Enjoy quality you can trust, attentive customer service, and fast delivery on galvanised steel sheet from BM Steel.

Also known as Galv Sheets, Tin Sheets, or Galvo Sheets, Galvanised Sheets are manufactured using mild steel. The steel sheets are given a protective zinc coating to prevent rust-causing moisture from coming into contact with the iron in the surface of the steel. Choose from galvanised steel sheet sizes ranging from 2000 x 1000 x 1mm to 2500 x 1250 x 3mm.

Galvanised Sheet FAQs

What is galvanised steel?

Galvanised steel is standard steel that has been coated with zinc for enhanced resistance to corrosion. The coating shields the iron steel substrate from moisture, ambient humidity, and other environmental conditions.

How to cut galvanised steel sheet?

Sawing or saw cutting with a hacksaw blade rather than a circular blade is the best way to cut galvanised steel sheet. If the cutting method generates enough heat, the zinc layer will give off toxic fumes. Other cutting methods, such as waterjet cutting, may be used.

Can you paint galvanised steel?

While the process does require proper preparation, it’s possible to paint galvanised steel. If the surface of the galvanised steel is not cleaned and prepared correctly, and if you do not use paints that are manufactured for galvanised metals, the paint will not adhere to the zinc layer and may even react with it.

Will Galvanised Sheet metal rust?

Although Galvanised Sheet’s zinc layer gives it enhanced protection against corrosion, this type of steel is not completely immune to rust. The zinc layer will break down over time, and the iron in the steel sheet metal will begin to corrode. How long this takes depends on various factors, such as exposure to salt water and high relative humidity.

Is Galvanised Sheet metal waterproof?

No, Galvanised Sheet metal is not waterproof. The protective zinc layer added to the steel during the galvanising process helps stop water from coming into direct contact with the surface of the steel. However, water eventually will come into contact with the steel as the zinc layer breaks down over time.

Can galvanised steel be welded?

Yes, with the right skills, equipment, technique, and safety precautions, galvanised steel can be welded. Welding Galvanised Sheet steel poses several challenges and risks. The zinc coating makes it almost impossible to do a clean weld, as it interferes with fusion. This can lead to inclusions and porosity. Ideally, the zinc coating should be removed before welding, as the coating produces deadly zinc oxide fumes during welding.

What is a Galvanised Sheet used for?

Galvanised Sheet is used in the automotive, catering, construction, and other industries. This type of steel is often used in steel frame buildings as well as in structures such as balconies, ladders, staircases, verandas, and walkways, especially when steel needs extra protection against corrosion.
